Abstract

The purpose underlying this study is to define the substantive concept of family health.
To achieve this purpose, the researcher made an inquiry regarding the concept of family health to five hundred and nineth students belonging to the nursing department of a junior college.
In more detail, the researcher conducted this by utilizing the inethodology whereby the researcher raised to those students an open question asking what your thinking with respect to the family health is and had them describe their answers therefor.
The students subject to this survey described statements of 1337 regarding the family health concept which they had.
The researcher defined cotents of the statements, and integrated the .statements whose contents were identical or similar to each other into one! concept. As a resulf of this, the researcher could have 177 concepts,
The researcher further checked whether a concept integrated in such a manner, out of the 177 concepts, has a cotent identical to that contained another concept, and then re-integrated those concepts into 94 concepts.
This re-integration -was based one the advice from one Korean lauguage professor and six nursing professors, and only if four professors had agreed to the fact that content of a concept is same as that of another content, the re-integration between the two concepts could have been made,.
After that, the reseacher analyzed re-integrated the 94 concepts based on the family Health System developed by Kathryn H. Anderson and patricia S. Tomnilson,
As a consequence, the 94 Loncepts were devided as follows:
Classification Number
Interactional Process 16
Developmental Process 8
Coping Process 17
Integrity Process 25
Health Process 28
Total 94
The family health concepts which the students stated as the most desirable are the status that all of the members of a family should have no disease (the number of this statements was 142), the status that all of the member of a family should maintain physically and mentally healthy condition (the number of this statements was 135), and the status that a family should be under on amicable atmosphere (the number of this statements was 91).
The foregoing result leaded the researcher to conclude that the family health concept which most of the students had is based on the systematic approach and family centric concept.
Ms Kim (Kim Su Gi 1988), Who had suggested the direction of study of nursing science in Korea, indecated that a crossectional case study of which purpose is to survey an area phenomenon or concept should be further conducted.
She further indecated that research of the an area of phenomenon should be made by way of inspection of phenomenon, raising of an open question, an analysis of contents of the answer for such an open question.
As indicated above, the family health is very complicated and ambiguous Concept.
In this sence, the researcher is of the opinion that continuous study on the family health concept which the general persons have is required.
The qualitative and quantitative study thereon will serve as a tool for establishing a methodology for a development of family health concept and evaluation of family health condition.
This will ultimat-ly contribute to maintain and enhance the Status of health of a family.
